-- Narrated Anas Ibn Masud (Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to take care of us in preaching by selecting a suitable time, so that we might not get bored. (He abstained from pestering us with sermons and knowledge all the time).

He replied, "The only thing which prevents me from doing so, is that I hate to bore you, and no doubt I take care of you in preaching by selecting a suitable time just as the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to do with us, for fearing of making us bored."

(And) another portion of it was hard and held the rain water and Allah benefited the people with it and they utilized it for drinking, making their animals drink from it and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. (And) a portion of it was barren which could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation (then the land did not give any benefits). The first is the example of the person who comprehends Allah's religion and gets benefit (from the knowledge) which Allah has revealed through me (the Prophet) and learns and then teaches others. The last example is that of person who does not care for it and does not take Allah's guidance revealed through me (He is like the barren land)."

4. Women will increase in number and men will decrease in number so much that fifty women will be looked after by one man.

"I have thought that none will ask me about it before you as I know your longing for the (learning of) Hadiths. The luckiest person who will have my intercession on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who said sincerely from the bottom of his heart "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah."

-- Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote to Abu Bakr bin Hazm, "look for the knowledge of Hadith and get it written, as I am afraid that religious knowledge will vanish and the religious learned men will pass away (die). Do not accept anything save the Hadiths of the Prophet may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Circulate knowledge and teach the ignorant, for knowledge does not vanish except when it is kept secretly (to oneself).

Some of them said to the others; Ask him ( the Prophet (peace be upon him)) about the spirit. Some of them said that they should not ask him that question as he might give a reply which would displease them. But some of them insisted on asking, and so on of them stood up and asked, "O Aba-l-Qasim! What is the spirit?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) remained quiet. I thought he was being inspired Divinely. So I stayed till that state of the Prophet (while being inspired) was over. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said, "And they ask you (O Muhammad (peace be upon him) ) concerning the spirit - Say: The spirit - its knowledge is with my Lord. And of knowledge you have been given but little." (17:85).
